Northern Americans spend billions on funerals every year, but the funeral or funeral services don't have to be dear. A funeral could be a simple internment or a complicated affair with music, speakers, customised boxes and refreshments for mourners. Family, non secular or personal preferences are important, but cost and convenience should be thought to be as well.

Trade Commission's Funeral Rule gives consumers several rights, including the prerogative to receive written price lists, explanations of cemetery or legal wants and the choice of using a container aside from a casket for cremation.
