North Americans spend billions on funerals every year, but the funeral or burial services do not have to be high-priced. A funeral could be a simple internment or an intricate affair with music, speakers, customized caskets and refreshments for mourners. Family, non secular or personal choices are significant, but cost and convenience should be thought to be as well.
"Many families are made to make choices about funerals under stress," recounted Michelle L. Corey, BBB President and General Manager. "By training themselves about the process and taking time to raise questions and compare costs, families can avoid overspending. They're more certain to get the type of service they desire, too."
The Federal Trade Commission's Funeral Rule gives patrons several rights, including the prerogative to receive written price lists, clarifications of graveyard or legal requirements and the selection of using a container aside from a casket for cremation. Some cemeteries have their own requirements, which must be explained totally before making a purchase.
