Brain Injuries
Cerebral Palsy is caused by brain damage suffered by a baby at around the time that the baby is delivered. There are different causes that result in the brain injury, such as bleeding in the brain, decreased oxygen levels in the blood, or physical trauma. A child with Cerebral Palsy has suffered an injury to the portion of the brain that controls the important higher mental and cognitive functions, sensory function, and movement. Cerebral Palsy can produce impairments in children that are mild or produce catastrophic injuries. One of the causes of Cerebral Palsy is a failure of oxygen to get to the baby while the labor and delivery process is occurring.
