What freedoms are the Military protecting?
First and foremost my rights do not come from the military. The military itself is non democratic and while those within its organizations are individually ruled under Admiralty Law it is Constitutional Law that governs the ACTIONS of that body.My actions outside of that body are governed under Constitutional Law and my obligations are only to Constitutinal Law.The military gave me nothing but the obligation given to the military by the Constitution was to Protect That Constitution. My Rights do not come from the military nor the Constituion but are outside of either of their influences. They both serve to defend those rights. What is owed to the past for sacrifices made by men defending those rights is a choice of character not mandated.Since the beginning of Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts the attack upon those rights have increased with a proportional increase in rhetoric about how military is protecting those rights. Not so for the military is protecting itself today!"My kind of loyalty was to ones country-not to its institutions or office holders. the country is the real thing, the substantial thing, the eternal thing, it is the thing to watch over and care fro, and be loyal to; insittuions are extraneous, they are its mere clothing, and clothing can wear out, cease to be comfortable, cease to protet the body from winter and death."Mark TwainYou see I learned from a winner and a real patriot not loud mouths who never will because they read jingos and spout dogma instead of learning from their past. Its called history and while it is not always pretty and does not go just the way you think it was it is still the truth.Too bad some cannot take or understand it and rely upon jingos, dogma and demigogues instead. My courage has been tested, found true towards my fellow soldiers and nationMister you had better rethink as you swore to uphold that Constituion, and it recognizes those rights you say are untrue. That is why you are under Admiralty law not Constitional law as an individual in military and your rights are curtailed to the degree they are by them, yet by Constituional Law you still retain the duty to not follow an unlawfull order to this day.The military today is protecting not the country, nor those rights, and as I said before it is not mandated but character that determines ones debt to past defenders. They earned my respect for defending country and those rights and I give it freely but I am free to damn anyone who believes that military unit loyalty is above ones countrys founding ideals. The Constitution limits the power of government. Abuses by military towards civil population have been struck down by Courts and until the last few years was prohibited from exercising civil contol upon that populace.Blind obedience to orders is not freedom.last responder, yes indeed we find ourselves fighting a new type of enemy, one that is not just off shore and unless we stop and clearly define what we are fighting for, then we are just blowing up and killing people needlessly.Contrary to popular opinion the job of military is not in killing an enemy unless that enemy is attacking its territories.Fighting as a soldier is not the hard part of winning a war; it is easy to join and follow orders but the decision of why and whom we attack is.Was this nation supposed to wage religous wars and does that mean I must be born again. When did Iraq pose a threat to US and was religion mentioned as to why we should attack? It is not criticizing the soldier to want to know the why he is doing as he is in our nations name but who in this nation is determing the why and if the why is realy in this nations best interest.Interest as set forth for its being, the Constitution. If we surrender the Constitution then what is this nation? ------
